How to prepare a hub for a rebuild
Step 1: Remove cassette from the wheel, using a cassette tool and chain whip. Do not just pull the cassette off by hand - this removes the freehub, which is necessary to build your wheel.
Step 2: Remove rotor from the wheel. For 6-bolt rotors, this requires a T25 Torx key. For centerlock rotors, this requires a Shimano Hollowtech II External BB Tool. Carefully store your rotor without touching the brake surface.
Step 2: Use bolt cutters, or a similar cutting tool, to cut the spokes off your wheel.
Step 3: Remove cut spokes from the hub
Step 4: Send us the bare hub, including freehub and endcaps.
